Everyone who wants to relax loves lighting a little scented candle every now and then. Aside from the pleasant aroma, the calming ambience it brings helps me unwind gracefully (especially now that I’m expecting any day!) and uplift my mood to feel as if I’m heading towards a rejuvenated me.
But, of course, it’s always important for every candle lover, myself included, to know how to take care of their scented candles.
Read on below for candle care tips – not only keeps the lovely smell but also lengthen the life of my candles.
1. Always trim the wick on the first light and after every light.

This might seem like a very trivial tip, but keeping a candle’s wick ⅛ inches ensures even burning all throughout its use, and also keeps your scented candles neat, clean and free of pot holes.
Plus, it is very important to make sure that the wick is in the middle so that the candle melts evenly and beautifully.
2. Let the fire burn
The first burn is the most important as succeeding times you burn your candle will follow the shape / pool of your first burn. To begin, candles should burn one hour for every 1 inch in diameter of the actual candle size.
Our 6 oz. candles should burn a minimum of 3 hours to liquefy the entire top layer of wax.
3. Keep the light of moderate height
It might be a bit amusing to watch scented candle’s lights inching up in height, but don’t let this fool you. Candle lights that burn too high cause uneven burning and will surely leave your candle holder black with dust.
4. 4-hour rule
Remember, candles should only be burnt for 4 hours to avoid starting fires. It should be left to rest for 2 hours before being lit again, so stay safe!
5. Placement is key
Avoid uneven burns (and dangerous ones, too!) by placing them on areas that are not too windy. That means positioning them near windows or ACs is a big no-no.
6. Snuff it out
And by this, I don’t mean sniff! Avoid that smokey scent after blowing out your candles by using a snuffer. You can also opt to use a non-flammable stick, dip it in melted wax then place against the wick for a clean fire escape.
Now you’re all set to experience the best candle lighting session you’ve had, just like I always do.
Happy scentful day!
